Although best remembered for his quirky cat illustrations, B. Kliban (American, 1935-1990) was a serious, innovative artist. After determining that formal art school education in the 1950's wasn’t for him, Kliban forged his own art career path that took him from figure sketching in Florence’s Uffizi Gallery to thirty years of creating satirical cartoons for such publications as Playboy, Esquire and the New Yorker. In 1975, with his groundbreaking book Cat, Kliban made history sharing the antics of his furry companions with humans everywhere. An offbeat interpreter of all things cat, Kliban was a funny, erudite man and one of the most artful cartoonists of his time. This cheery engagement calendar includes some sixty of his Cat paintings and cartoons, more than enough for a year full of feline mayhem.
