Stunning and timeless, this one-of-kind black faceted onyx and silver bead necklace is handcrafted by Colina Yazzie. The hook clasp is sterling silver. Perfect by itself or layering.
Colina Yazzie grew up in a small hogan with four brothers and three sisters in the Ganado (Arizona) area. After graduating high school she moved to Dallas, Texas and trained for the airlines but due to homesickness returned and began working in the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado. Colina started bead stringing in 1990 when she attended the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Since then, she has been drawn to making necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Gem beads from around the world, particularly Tourmaline and Coral strands heightened her inspiration to include them in necklaces. Colina says "Stringing beads is like a craving for delicious food. As long as I've been assembling these gorgeous Gem beads, I have not allowed it to be known to the public until it became more in demand."
Colina, along with her husband Raymond C. Yazzie, who reside in Gallup, New Mexico, are one of the most celebrated jewelry making families of our time.
