Unlike Zuni carvers who tend to use more formal materials including semi precious stones and mined minerals, Pueblo people have long carved stone fetishes used for ceremonies with common-place rocks often found lying in the open on the stream banks and fields of the Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico.
As a result, these carvings are more organic and rougher than those of the Zuni or Navajo counterparts giving each piece a distinct look that is equally authentic and collectible.
