Martha Arquero Five Baby Storyteller

Martha Arquero was born in 1944 into the Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico. She is the daughter of well-known potter Damacia Cordero who taught Martha and two of her sisters how to make pottery. Damacia showed her daughters where to find the clay, what plants were used for paint, and the perfect mixing technique to mold and sculpt desired shapes. She uses all natural pigments to hand coil her sculptures, gathering the clay from the hills nearby her home. Martha makes a variety of pottery, from traditional storytellers and nativity scenes to playful characters and comic book heroes.

Storyteller measures 6 1/2" tall x 6" wide x 5 1/2" deep. Drum and drum stick can be moved and adjusted. Signed on the base.
