This Navajo Chief Blanket woven by James Joe measures 52" x 43". The Chief “blanket” is the earliest established weaving style known. It is distinguished by its square shape and by its plain design in blue, red, black, and white. When the four corners are folded to meet at the center, the design is the same as when unfolded. The basic pattern has evolved over time into four phases, with the third phase being the most popular today.
