Pineapple Pin

When Christopher Columbus encountered pineapples in 1493 on the leeward island of Guadeloupe, he called them “pina de Indies” meaning “pine of the Indians.” Pollinated primarily by hummingbirds, a single pineapple is the result of over a hundred individual fused flowers.
