The Number 8 turquoise mine in Eureka County north of Carlin, Nevada was discovered in 1925 and first mined in 1929. Some of the largest turquoise nuggets ever discovered were found at the Number 8 mine. The stone is noted for its matrix that can vary in color from golden brown to black. The color of the stone vary from light blue to dark blue with tints of green. Today, Number 8 turquoise is one of the most valuable stones to be collected, especially if it features a black matrix.
