We are delighted to introduce local glass blower, George O’Grady. He began working with hot glass in 1993, predominantly self-taught with a great nod of respect to his brother Kevin O'Grady and also to Lewis C. Wilson. In 1994 he met Charles V. Miner, founder of Tesuque Glassworks. This changed his world as George began exploring the wonders of "off hand glass blowing". Honorably discharged from the Coast Guard, O’Grady served as a paramedic, firefighter, and emergency medical technician before a dreaded sense of burnout and a grim hand injury sustained in a skiing accident led him to finding the sphere of seared glass.
George states that he is strongly influenced by Art Nouveau artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, and the early 20th century art movement that grew from Impressionism to Modern Abstract. Those artists' use of color inspires George in color aesthetic choices.
One of a kind. Different Variations are available at the Vladem Contemporary Shop, and the New Mexico Museum of Art Shop.
