Martha Arquero was born in 1944 into the Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico. She has been making pottery sculptures since the late 1960’s, inspired to continue the family tradition of clay sculpting by her Mother, Damacia Cordero. She uses all natural pigments to hand coil her sculptures, gathering the clay from the hills nearby her home. Martha makes a variety of pottery, from traditional storytellers and nativity scenes to playful characters and comic book heroes. Martha is the recipient of the 2024 Living Treasure and Legacy Award, awarded by the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture.
