    Gustave Baumann Rio Pecos Matted Print

    A matted Print of Gustave Baumann's woodcut, "Rio Pecos" from the New Mexico Museum of Art Collection. Measures 8" x 10".

    Gustave Baumann was born in Germany and immigrated to Chicago in 1891.  He received his art education from the Art Institute of Chicago.  His earliest color woodcuts date from 1906.  Gustave Baumann became a preeminent woodcut artist, winning the gold medal for printmaking in the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915.

    Baumann moved to New Mexico in 1918 settling in Santa Fe where he lived the rest of his life.  His prints are in many major collections including:  The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts-Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago and the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe.
