Tony Jojola

Tony Jojola

Isleta Pueblo

Tony Jojola from Isleta Pueblo is one of the foremost glass artists in the country today. He was encouraged to study art the Institute for American Indian Arts, where he first learned to work with glass. He went on to study at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine, which then led to work at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, where he served as apprentice to Dale Chihuly, the acknowledged master of American glass art and eventually became a member of his famed team of glass artists. With Chihuly’s help, Jojola established the Taos Glass Workshop in 1999, which allowed him to give back to his community by teaching others a valuable skillset. Tony is inspired by his family's artistic heritage and has even used his grandfather's jewelry-making tools to create unique works that pay homage to his family.
